As we take Jesus’ hard words at face value, they can unleash compassion. They can unleash pursuit. They can unleash mission. They can unleash a love that neutralizes fear. They can embolden us to humbly share with others. They can prompt us into godly urgency. If we push them down, then we enable ourselves to live a very safe, predictable Christianity that never leads us outside of the boat and onto the turbulent waves in order to rescue someone who is drowning and desperately in need of a life preserver.
