How many of us enjoy corrections? I imagine how most of us might answer this question. In Acts 18:24, we’re introduced to a gifted bible teacher named Apollos. In many ways, Apollos would have been a church’s dream pastor. He was competent in the scriptures. He was a gifted speaker. You’re not going to fall asleep during his sermons. Yet, in the same breath, we’re told that Priscilla and Aquila explain the way of God to him more accurately. It’s very likely that Priscilla and Aquila didn’t have the same exact gift set as Apollos, but they provided correction. Imagine how Apollos could have responded. Don’t you know who I am? Did you forget how gifted I am? Have you forgotten the people who have come to the Lord through my ministry? Instead, the passage indicates his humility and openness to their correction. Do we invite corrections? Do we feel as if correction is some sort of indictment against us as a person? May God give us the humility to be open to correction for the sake of growing in the gifts He has entrusted to us.

What fires you up? A bad call against your favorite sports team? Traffic? Someone who says they’re going to do something but doesn’t come through? I have to admit that each of those things have fired me up at one point or another. In  Acts 17:16-34, did you notice what fires Paul up? This week we get to join Paul and company on their 100-mile trek from Philippi to Thessalonica. As Paul arrives, he goes to the synagogue to prove Jesus is the Christ by showing how the scriptures said Jesus must both die for the sins of his people and then rise from the dead. In Luke 24, we’re privy to a conversation between the resurrected Jesus and two disciples where he plainly says that the whole bible is about him. I imagine that some of the scriptures Paul used to point people to Jesus’ death and resurrection in the Old Testament were Isaiah 52:14-53:12, Psalm 22, Zechariah 12:10, Daniel 9:26, Psalm 16, Psalm 110 and many more. Perhaps an overlooked apologetic (a defense of the Christian faith) are the myriads of ways Jesus fulfills prophecies from the Old Testament that were written down centuries before he came to earth. I encourage you to look at these passages and allow them to embolden you in what you already believe.
