Faith takes the first step of obedience even before the next step becomes clear. We often want a guarantee of how things will turn out before we exercise faith, yet Ruth exercised faith before she had any guarantee as to how things would turn out.

This week we look at chapter 2 of the Book of Ruth. Having made it to Bethlehem, Ruth and Naomi are hungry and without protection. But they are not without hope. Ruth begins exercising her fledging faith in the God of the Bible and goes to work picking up extra grain in the fields of a worthy man named Boaz. Boaz notices her, and God shows that, by faith, Ruth has many more resources than she could have imagined. Ruth 2:1-23

In the bitterness of life, hope is on the horizon for those who are in Christ. There’s grace at the bottom of the barrel in Bethlehem, but Naomi will need to let go of Moab to reach the bottom of the barrel. And she will need to exhibit obedience before she has any guarantee of how everything will turn out.Ruth 1:19-22
