Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.Pastor David Burke leads us today.Get the reading guide and more information at www.fremontpres.org/bibleverses.Email us at podcast@fremontpres.org

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Mercy can be thought of as pity or sympathy for someone’s suffering plus the desire to provide relief. Pity + action is mercy. And this is precisely what God has done for us, he sees us in this broken world and acted through His son to save us. Jesus reminds us with this beatitude of the extraordinary mercy the Father has shown us which should lead us to live mercifully to the world around us.Scripture reading is Matthew 5:7

“Who’s wrong, and who’s right?”  This question could be asked about any number of things in today’s world.  This week’s teaching from Jesus asks a different question:  “What is righteousness?”  And what does it mean to hunger and thirst for it?  Moreover, we’ll discover that the answer doesn’t solely depend on us—there is Someone at work to fulfill all righteousness.Scripture reading is Matthew 5:6

Meekness is birthed when the need to control is put to death. Meekness is not weakness, but strength under control.Scripture reading is Matthew 5:5

After Sermon Reflection Scriptures:
Matthew 26:38-39 Then he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.” 39 And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.
Philippians 2:5-8 Who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Sunday Jun 19, 2022

This week we continue through the Beatitudes—those counter-cultural blessed statements from Jesus—with “blessed are those who mourn.” We’ll look at what mourning means in our culture, what brings us grief. Then we’ll see how Jesus, our savior who suffered much, is our great comfort by dealing with the root of all mourning now and forever. Scripture reading is Matthew 5:4.
