October 16, 2022 - Angry?

Sunday Oct 16, 2022

Sunday Oct 16, 2022

Scripture:  Jonah 4:1-4
Are you angry? What makes you angry?  This week’s passage is about anger.Jonah’s great anger at God’s mercy.  And God’s beautiful character being slow to anger, abounding in love.  God’s question to Jonah—and to us—is a profound one.  “Is it right for you to be angry?”  I see this as an invitation from God to ask ourselves, what is it that really is causing our anger?

By the grace of God, it’s when Jonah sank lowest that He looked up highest. When God was all He had, he realized God was all He needed. Many times it is our sinking deep that becomes the means by which God keeps us afloat.

When we encounter things beyond our control, like a storm, what is our default posture?  Wait it out?  Keep ourselves and loved ones as safe as we can?  The most unexpected response of Jonah to calming the storm points to the greater story of God—how sacrifice of one leads to the saving of many.
