Join us as a church family reading through the scriptures that our pastors will be teaching about Sunday mornings. Then sign up to receive text devotionals and “Next Step Monday” prompts helping us apply what we have learned in our lives. This is a great opportunity to be doers of the Word acting on applying scripture. Text “BELONG” to 916-848-5770.

As we journey into 2024 both individually and collectively, let us be people through whom grace is revealed, not by whom grace is concealed. Let us boldly find our unity in Christ alone and our confidence in Christ crucified.

On Christmas Eve, we will look at the story where Joseph is told to name the child Jesus. There is an implied question here:  “What are we to call him?”  We learn that the name Jesus carries with it a powerful promise:  He will save us from our sins.  And, the passage in Matthew 1 tells us that this child is “God with Us,” something that was foretold from centuries ago.  There is power in the name of Jesus, and we can call on Him.

“Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?”  This is the question we will look at this week.  In the Christmas story, this is asked by curious travelers and astronomers called Magi, or more traditionally called “The Wise Men.”   Amidst the pain and heartache we see in our own lives and in the world, we may be asking, “Where is God?”

Continuing in our series for preparation for Christmas, this week we look at a question posed by Mary, the mother of Jesus:  “How can this be?”  Mary cannot understand how she will bear a son when she has never been with a man.  This seems impossible…but as we will later learn from Jesus himself, “With God all things are possible.”  What parts of our lives fall into the realm of “impossible,” but we see God at work to do the impossible?

This week, we begin a new series in preparation for Christmas.  We’re calling it:  I’ve Got Questions! The announcement of God coming to earth as a little baby brought questions for each person involved in the Christmas story.  In our first week, we have a priest named Zechariah asking the question, “How can I be sure?”  Seasons of doubt and certainty are part of a life of faith—what can we learn from Zechariah’s question?

This week, we look at the story of Zacchaeus, whose short stature is the subject of many a Sunday school song and story!  But the story is more about the effect that Jesus has on people, and we learn of the gracious mission of Jesus:  “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”  May we celebrate the grace and love of our Lord, and learn from Zacchaeus and his changed life!
