If you had just been arrested and imprisoned for speaking about Jesus, and then subsequently threatened not to speak any more about Jesus, what would your prayer be? This is the scene in Acts 4:23-31, but the early church prays for none of these things. In fact, out of the seven verses that their prayer spans, only two of those verses are even a petition to God. The first five verses have nothing to do with asking God for anything. When they finally get to their petitions, they’re not what we’d expect. The question this passage answers and what this podcast will answer is this: As the winds of fear and anxiety swirl and seek to blow over the early church, how is it that they are enabled to stand so boldly?
